Council Advising Road Users To Exercise Caution As Status Yellow Rain And Wind Warning In Place Across Cork

Cork City Council is advising road users to exercise caution as a status yellow rain and wind warning is in place across Cork and the rest of the country.

Severe weather warnings are in place this morning after Storm Gerrit made landfall overnight.

Kerry and Cork are expected to be the worst affected but the storm will affect the entire island of Ireland the day goes on.

Travel disruption is expected and Ryanair has warned that high winds could 'potentially' cause delays.

Cork County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team has distributed more than 7,000 sandbags to the Midleton/East Cork area alone with the assistance of the Defence Forces.

Main Street, Carrigaline was closed overnight as a precaution.

Heavy showers are expected today.

A status orange rainfall warning is in place for West Cork and Kerry to midnight on Thursday/Friday.
