The coalition party leaders are expected to agree the general election date at a meeting this evening.

After playing coy on the date of the next election for months Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil have been somewhat forced into agreeing a date tonight after Green Party leader Roderic O'Gorman said last week he wants the vote to be on November 29th.

All three coalition leaders have said there's work still to be done by this Government - namely the passing of the finance bill, revised supplementary budgets for Government Departments and new housing targets.
Without changes to the current Dáil schedule that makes a late November election most likely.
While Simon Harris alone holds the power to request the Dáil be dissolved, he also has to end on good terms with his Government partners, if they're to hope for another term in office together.
