A retired priest who criticised homosexuality, transgenderism and contraception during a homily in Kerry at the weekend is to be prevented from saying mass again.
Fr Sean Sheehy told the congregation at St Mary's Church in Listowel that gay couples were sinful, adding that free contraception is 'promoting promiscuity'.
The Bishop of Kerry described the remarks as 'unchristian'.
Theologian Gina Menezies believes the Church has moved on from such stances.
"The startling comment that many of us would remember was when Pope Francis was asked about it, his immediate response was, 'Who am I to judge?'
"The church is trying to bring the message of the good news to people. The last thing you do is you judge them. And the last thing you do is demonstrate anger."
