Leaving Cert oral exams will be held during the Easter holidays for the next three years.
There had been opposition from teachers' unions and student representatives to the timings introduced in 2022.
Holding the exams during the break is the preferred approach of principles and school management, but teacher unions want to see them moved.
Michael Gillespie, General Secretary of the Teachers Union of Ireland, says it's not fair on the students.
"You come in on the day you've got an oral in the school - it's Irish. All your classmates are doing Irish that day - you talk to each other in Irish to get your heads going.
"During Easter, they go into an empty school, they don't meet anybody. That's an advantage I suppose, that it's a quieter school.
"But also you have to weigh up the advantage that if you're talking to your peers in the language you're doing the oral in that's an advantage as well - it's getting your mind working in a different way."
