Roughly 500 homes in county Cork are experiencing water supply problems today - following a power outage caused by Storm Gerrit.
Residents of Crosshaven, Myrtleville, Fountainstown and the nearby areas may experience low pressure or supply interruptions for the next 24 hours.
An alternative water supply will be available this afternoon at Fountainstown Beach Car Park, on Ferry Road.
Uisce Éireann customers are advised to bring their containers and boil the water before use.
Water service crews are onsite working to get the water supply restored to all customers as soon as possible.
Speaking about the unplanned outage, Cormac Bergin of Uisce Éireann said: “The effect of last night’s storm caused a power outage. Expert crews are still onsite working hard to get the water supply restored as soon as possible. We regret any inconvenience caused as a result of this issue and thank the local community for their patience.”
Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours. As per best practice, most homes and businesses will have on-site water storage to provide a backup source of water for sanitation purposes.
The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact them on X (formerly Twitter) @IWCare with any queries. For updates please visit our Water Supply Updates section on www.water.ie
