Clean up works are continuing following Storm Ashley.

A status yellow wind warning was in place until midnight, with gusts of up to 70 kilometres per hour reported in Cork.

The ESB worked to restore power to thousands of homes and businesses that lost power yesterday, however as of this morning the vast majority of those customers have had their power restored.

Outages though remain in Kanturk, Bandon and Timoleague, with crews back to work at first light.

Social Protection Minister, Heather Humphreys is providing help to homes hit by Storm Ashley.

She says says the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme is available to provide support to those living in properties directly affected.

It will help people who are unable to meet costs for essential needs, household

The coalition party leaders are expected to agree the general election date at a meeting this evening.

Taoiseach Simon Harris has confirmed the election will be held this side of Christmas.

Over 950 teaching positions are currently vacant in schools across the country.

A survey from the INTO, which covered 40% of primary and secondary schools, found 195 permanent posts and 756 long term temporary or substitute jobs are unfilled.
