A woman in her 70’s who died after she was struck by a car which mounted the footpath on Main Street in Charleville, Co Cork , has been named locally as Mary Fehilly.

The crash occurred at around 2pm on Saturday as she was buying a Lotto ticket for Charleville GAA.

Mary Fehilly , who lives in Holycross Place in Charleville was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A major fire at a commercial premises on the city's northside was brought under control by fire crews yesterday.

8 units of Cork City Fire Brigade responded to a call at a fire at CWS -Boco, a laundry company based at Fitz's Boreen just off Common's Road in Blackpool just after 1.30am.

Two units remained on the scene into yesterday afternoon to deal with small pockets of fire at the building.

A 27 year old man will be back in court on Wednesday, charged with the murder of a 36 year old man in Co Kerry.

Kane Hornyak of Doon Road, Ballybunion, Co Kerry appeared before Cork District Court yesterday, charged with the murder of Gerard (Ger) Kennelly in Knockanure, Co Kerry on May 27th last.

The father one one died after suffering stab injuries in Knockanure village, just outside Listowel.
