There's a demand on the next Government to scrap third-level fees.

The USI's student manifesto being launched today also wants urgent action on the student accommodation crisis.

It also wants the next government to bring in free public transport for all students.

Union of Students in Ireland President Chris Clifford says college costs need to come down.

"One of our other focuses is to abolish third level fees. It's something we've been talking about since the introduction of the €3,000 contribution charge.

"We're seeing progress with the €1,000, but every year students and parents don't know what they're doing when it comes to is it €3,000 or is it €2,000.

"We need to have a clear plan. We don't expect to have it be done instantly, but we need a plan on how to reduce the cost."
