The arrest of a woman in connection with the murder of Kyran Durnin has been described as a 'step along the way' to solving the case.
He was last seen in the early summer of 2022 and Gardaí believe the then 6 year old - who was reported missing last August - was killed in May or June of that year.
The woman who is aged in her 20's was arrested in Co. Louth yesterday and is being questioned at a Garda station in the eastern region.
Crime Correspondent with the Irish Times Conor Gallagher says the woman in custody was known to Kyran.
"This would be one of the first major developments in the case since Gardai completed a search operation last month on a location where Kyren Durnin used to live. That search threw up little of evidential value.
"But yesterday Gardai arrested a woman aged in her mid 20s. This was a woman who was well known to Kyren Durnin, and would have had a relationship ongoing with him for many years."
