A woman is dead, and two children and a man are in hospital after a crash between a car and a van in Co. Kildare.
It happened near Enfield yesterday, just hours after a motorcyclist was killed in Co. Cavan.
The deaths bring to 3 the number of people killed on the roads in the opening days of the year.
Forensic collision investigations are underway this morning at the scene of last night's crash between a car and a van on the R148 near Enfield, with the road closed and diversions in place.
The woman who was aged in her 40's was pronounced dead at the scene after the collision which happened at around 6.15 PM.
The two children who were in the car with her are in serious but stable conditions at CHI Crumlin. The man driving the van suffered non life-threatening injuries.
Just hours earlier a motorcyclist in his 40's died when his bike hit a car on the main Cavan to Ballinagh road, where diversions are still in place this morning.
Their deaths along with that of a 27 year old man on the M7 in Kildare on Monday night, represent a tragic start with 3 people killed on the roads already in 2024.
