Wordle, Pornstar Martini and Johnny Depp among top Google searches for Irish people in 2022

The most Googled words and phrases in Ireland this year have been revealed.

The Google Year in Search results were announced today, giving smartphone and PC users a chance to see what caught the country's attention in 2022.

The overall top search for 2022 was for the popular online word-game 'Wordle'.

The war in Ukraine was also among the top 10 searches, with many people googling things like 'What is NATO?', 'Vladimir Putin', and 'What is the population of Ukraine?'.

Other popular searches included movies like 'Top Gun: Maverick' and 'The Banshees of Inisherin'.

In sports searches, 'The World Cup' and 'Australian Open Ireland vs New Zealand' topped the list.

Covid remained popular this year, with Irish people searching daily for things like 'How to get a Covid cert', and 'How to book a PCR test.'

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were the most googled people in Ireland amid the defamation trial controversy in the US. Will Smith followed closely as the third most searched, most likely due to the headlines after the dramatic 2022 Oscars Ceremony.

Despite the reopening of bars and restaurants, the top searched recipe was for a 'Pornstar Martini' cocktail. Other popular recipe searches  include mushroom soup. spaghetti bolognese and overnight oats.
