A Cork advocate for children's disability services say there are no community supports or services available for families.

Rebecca O'Riordan of Families Unite for Services and Support was speaking as 10 respite beds in Cork and Kerry are re-opened but says families will continue to get into serious crisis due to the lack of intervention and support

She says there is a respite crisis in Cork and claims that the true depth of the situation in being deliberately and repeatedly concealed.

Rebecca says there is a huge level of need in the community and early intervention for children and supports around transport, special education and summer provision is the only way to tackle the crisis within children's disability services.

Speaking to RedFM News Rebecca O'Riordan of FUSS she says there is no long term planning and the retention of staff is proving very difficult due to their high case loads.

"There is a crisis for carers all across Cork city and county and into Kerry - there are just not enough respite services available,

"While the reopening of these 10 beds is welcome, we have to all consider how these beds are beings reopened, They're being reopened by bringing more private service providers in. This raises questions about governance."
