Katie Taylor says she's learned a lot from her defeat to Chantelle Cameron.
Northampton fighter Cameron inflicted a first professional defeat on Taylor back in May, winning a majority decision in front of a packed house at the 3Arena. They'll meet again in November at the same venue, and faced off yesterday at a pre-fight press conference.
"I never wanted to experience a loss, obviously", Taylor told Off The Ball's Aisling O'Reilly. "After a loss you're always forced to analyse things a bit more, you have to tweak a few things. I was extremely disappointed after the last fight. MY goal was never overly concerned about keeping the zero, I was extremely disappointed because I lost - not because I lost the zero.
"I think I just always want to be involved in the biggest fights for female boxing, and to elevate the sport. I just want to continue to be involved in these history making fights.
"That's what makes the kind of fighters like Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, [Marvin] Hagler, [Thomas] Hearns, these guys just wanted to be involved in the biggest fight nights. That's the type of fighter I want to be."
Promoter Eddie Hearn says that for Taylor, the rematch with Cameron was the only option for her.
"I knew that's what she would want to do. She wouldn't want to change the terms of that. It would be at 140lbs, there was the Serrano fight, there was other fights.
"But she's a competitor, and any fighter that gets beat should want a rematch. Whether that's foolish, whether that's stubborn, whatever it is, she was never going to do anything else but rematch Chantelle Cameron.
"For the first time in her career, she's a big underdog going into this fight. She's never been an underdog before, but that will spur her on.
"Both fighters are confident, even Katie with the defeat, but Chantelle is beaming with confidence ahead of this one."
