The head of the HSE says the number of people in hospital with Covid-19 may not have peaked yet.
1,063 patients are being treated today - the first time it's gone above a thousand since last February.
The figure is an increase of 79 since yesterday, and 32 percent higher than last Monday.
HSE chief executive Paul Reid says there's no sign of the numbers peaking yet.
"It certainly doesn't feel like it from a health service perspective., from what we're seeing of admissions in hospitals and pressure on the hospital system.
"The modelling from NPHET can always be revised, but it was indicating that it would peak in the next few days or so.
"It just doesn't feel like it from us in the health service perspective."
Meanwhile 54 people are waiting for a bed at two hospitals in Cork today.
The INMO says there are 30 patients without a bed at CUH and 24 at the Mercy.
Overall there are 411 patients waiting on trolleys in hospitals across the country...
University Hospital Limerick is the most overcrowded with 54 people waiting for bed.
