People in the city say they would welcome a controlled injection centre in Cork.
A supervised centre for drug addicts is opening in Dublin in September and Tanáiste Michéal Martin says he would be open to a similar centre opening here.
It comes as health experts have warned of potent new opioids after an increase of drug overdoses in Cork and Dublin.
Speaking to RedFM News, these people in the city say an injection centre couldn’t be anywhere near children:
"I wouldn't mind it being in the centre of town but not near estates."
"Where I live, there's a lot of syringes near the fields, so it would be a good idea to have something like that here."
"I'd be for it too, I have 5 children so I wouldn't expect it near housing estates, but definitely near housing estates for people who need it."
