Consumer experts say the pandemic, Brexit and global supply chain issues could lead to shortages.
The blockage of the Suez Canal earlier this year also caused unprecedented disruption to global trade.
Consumer Affairs correspondent with the Irish Times, Conor Pope, says the costs of shipping is also causing a problem.
"You also have this really chronic shortage of HGV drivers in the UK, that's proving very difficult to manage.
"Then you have the fact that container shipping, the actual cost of the containers that bring products all over the world, has gone through the roof in recent months.
"All of that is going to put huge pressure on supply chains."
