The plan to axe jobs at Paypal is being described as a 'tremendous blow' to the workers and families.
The company is intending to let 205 workers go in Dundalk in Louth and Blanchardstown in Dublin.
Labour says it should be treated as a proposal, not a final decision as the consultation process with staff has yet to get underway.
Louth TD Ged Nash has expressed his concern to the company's executives:
"This latest development is extremely worrying. Yesterday, I spoke at length to PayPal executives about this. They made contact with me to explain the context in which this proposition was being made. I reminded them that under Irish law, it is important that they engage in the statutory redundancy consultation process whenever contemplating a process like, this that's not a fait accompli”.
