10 classic films to get your family in a spooky mood

As Spooky season is in full swing and the weather is getting darker (and sadly wetter!) it’s time to grab your blankets, some seasonal goodies and snuggle up with a comfy blanket and these Halloween classics.

  1. Hocus Pocus 

After 300 years, three witches resurrect to get revenge  after Max, a young boy who has just moved to Salem with his family, lights a cursed Candle of Black Flame.

 2. Tim Burton’s – The Nightmare Before Christmas 

Jack Skellington, a resident of Halloween Town, discovers Christmas Town and instantly becomes infatuated. His obsession with Christmas time and Christmas Town leads him to abduct Santa Claus!

3. Casper 

Dr James Harvey is a paranormal expert who has been hired by Carrigan Crittenden to exorcise the ghosts from her mansion. However, the friendly ghost Casper ends up befriending Harvey’s daughter, which ends up changing everything.

 4. Halloweentown 

The Piper family children have their Grandma Aggie come to visit, when they notice her use magic. Intrigued by what this could mean they follow her back to Halloweentown. However in Halloweentown, dark forces attack Aggie and the children’s mother Gwen.

5. Monster House 

What would you do if there was a Monster House in your neighbourhood? Well, these three teenagers have discovered one in theirs and to make it worse, it hates children. The trio of friends have decided that their only option is to find and destroy the heart of the house in order to kill it.

6. Monsters Inc. 

Although Monsters Inc isn’t specifically a Halloween film, it follows the story of two Monster friends. In Monstropolis, best friends Sulley and Mike are the top scarers working at the Monsters, Inc. However, everything changes when a human girl, which they call ‘Boo’, enters their world. The perfect monster-themed film for little ones who may not be ready for a full-blown Halloween film just yet.

7. Corpse Bride 

Practicing wedding vows in a wood can lead to some spooky circumstances and Victor is about to find out. He accidentally gets married to a skeleton-like-lady creature called Emily who then takes him away to live in the land of the dead.

8. Wallace and Gromit – Curse of the were-rabbit 

In this fun film, the much-loved duo of man and dog, Wallace and Gromit are called to help try and find a huge vegetable-ravaging beast that has destroyed plots of land before the Giant Vegetable Competition. Not exactly a Halloween film but a spooky one which is suitable for younger audiences.

9. Monsters Vs. Aliens 

Another Monster based movie, not set at Halloween but the perfect mix of humour and spookiness for the little ones. Susan Murphy is a normal woman before she gets hit with a meteorite and turns into a giant on her wedding day. Now a giant, she is made part of the monster team who were assembled to defeat an evil alien from destroying the earth.

10. The Addams Family 

The peculiar Addams family move to a normal quite neighbourhood in a suburb in New Jersey. However, their daughter Wednesday, befriends the daughter of a reality show host and trouble begins to rise.
