10 People Have Died On Cork Roads Already This Year

10 people have died on Cork roads already this year.

That’s according to the Communications Manager of the Road Safety Authority, Brian Farrell.

The RSA is appealing to motorists to take care on the roads this August Bank Holiday weekend as more people than usual will be getting behind the wheel.

They say it is important to ‘expect the unexpected’, slow down, and remember that local roads are the most lethal.

Speaking to RedFM News, the RSA’s Brian Farrell says that 2022 has proven to be far more deadly for road users than last year:

“We’ve had a significant increase in road deaths this year. We’ve had 95 fatalities on our roads; that’s up 27 on last year. We’ve also had 673 people seriously injured on our roads, again that’s a figure that’s up on last year; it’s up 21 on last year. And worryingly, we’ve had 10 fatalities in Cork city and county to date this year, and that’s an increase on last year.”
