1,508 new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed
206 patients are now in hospital with the virus, with 33 people in ICU.
The Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has warned the virus is circulating to a significant degree in the community.
Meanwhile, there is a call for authorities to develop a long term strategy to contain the spread of the virus.
Public Health expert Dr Gabriel Scally says effective face masks should be worn and buildings should be adapted to improve ventilation:
“That sort of stuff, I think will become the normal way of life and it’ll have to be for the next couple of years anyway because, COVID-19 virus isn’t going away, and we’ve had three really significant variants of it so far, and there’s absolutely no reason why there shouldn’t be a fourth, fifth or and even a sixth variant so we really need to make these changes.”
