31,963 People Admitted To Hospital In Cork Last Year Due To Alcohol And Drug Misuse
31,963 people were admitted to hospital in Cork last year due to alcohol and drug misuse.
That’s according to HSE figures released to Cork’s RedFM through a Freedom of Information request.
They show that there was an increase of more that 850 admissions on 2020.
The figures come as the University of Washington’s School of Medicine published a study yesterday which says younger adults should steer clear of alcohol – as it is of NO benefit.
The research suggests drinking more than a small shot glass of beer a day, or two tablespoons’ worth of wine – could pose health risks for those under the age of 40.
In the first four months of this year alone, there has already been nearly 12,000 alcohol and drug misuse-related admissions in Cork.
