60 per cent of readers say they prefer physical books to a tablet or Kindle.

A survey by holiday lettings website, Original Cottages, also found after clothes, books were the most important thing people packed for a getaway.

Irish author Sally Rooney’s, ‘Beautiful World, Where Are You’, topped the list of favourite summer reads.

Others in the top five include, Fifty Shades of Grey and Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
