AA reminds motorists of fuel saving tips as diesel exceeds €2 a litre at the pumps

Dropping your speed on motorways can save fuel by as much as 30 per cent, according to the AA.

It comes as prices for premium diesel products exceed 2 euro at the pumps.

Gardai have also been warning about expected increases in ‘drive-offs’ as prices go up.

Head of Communications at the AA, Paddy Comyn, says slowing down can help, especially on a motorway

“If you can safely reduce your speed to 100 or 110kmh versus 120kmh an hour you will save some fuel. We have demonstrated that ourselves – we have had savings of up to 30%  by driving at 100 km/hr obviously in the left hand side lane”
