America’s Cup Could Be Sporting Event On Scale Cork And Ireland Have Never Seen
That’s according to Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney who says the 2024 edition of the world famous yacht race could be held in Cork if Ireland is selected to host it.
Minister Coveney says the last America’s Cup attracted over 2 and a half million people and was worth over 2 billion Euro to the Spanish economy.
It’s not yet known when the government will finalise their proposal for the race to be held in Cork…
However speaking to RedFM News, Simon Coveney says it’s a huge opportunity for Ireland:
“EY are in the middle of finalising a Cost Benefit Analysis at the moment in terms of the financial value to the country of a global sporting event of this scale, which many would say is third only to the Olympics, the football World Cup in terms of hosting a global sporting event, because the America’s Cup goes on for nearly three years in terms of build up events and team presence and so on.”
