Anyone going to the United States on a J1 Visa are being warned about the costs of accommodation

Students can travel and work in the US again this Summer, after the visa was cancelled for the last two years due to COVID-19.

Cities such as New York, Chicago and Boston are popular destinations.

Mary Swanton from the Irish Pastoral Centre in Boston says students should be wary when looking for apartments in the country:

“Be careful with housing choices. Apartments in America don’t come with furniture. So they’re completely unfurnished and there isn’t even a knife and fork.”
