Cabinet to discuss cost of living crisis
Cabinet ministers will discuss the cost of living crisis when they meet later this morning.
The government is preparing the summer economic statement, ahead of the Budget in October.
Ministers are under pressure to ease the burden on struggling households before then.
But junior minister Niall Collins says that won’t be happening.
“We’ll be very keen to stress that we won’t chase inflation, and we won’t bring in measures week on, week off.
“We’ve brought in some comprehensive proposals to date, to the tune of €2.4bn, and we’re now going to address the wider cost of living issues that are impacting us on a growing basis in a comprehensive Budget in early October.”
