Call for Britain to be added to mandatory quarantine list

The Dáil last night heard calls for Britain to be added to Ireland’s mandatory hotel quarantine list.

Almost all restrictions will be lifted in England on July 19th – which the British government says could lead to 100,000 cases a day.

Independent TD Joan Collins says that poses a big threat to Ireland.

“My concern is that with Delta running rampant in the UK, it could become a variant factory. We could have mutations develop as Delta runs through the population, and we have to protect our vaccine programme here.

“I think there needs to be a serious discussion with NPHET and the HSE about whether mandatory hotel quarantine is put in place.”
