Calls For Expansion Of Pharmacy Services To Ease Pressure On GPs And A&Es To Make Medical Services Easier To Access
A Cork TD is calling for the expansion of pharmacy services to ease pressure on GPs and A&Es – and make medical services easier to access.
Cork North West TD Aindrias Moynihan told the Dáil that expanding pharmacist services would have majorly reduce the pressure being experienced by GP and hospital services.
In response, the Minister for Health stated that the Community Pharmacy Planning Forum is now “discussing the strategic direction of the community pharmacy profession”.
Pharmacists across Cork are expected to call for an expanded primary care role when they gather in Macroom next week.
An Irish Pharmacy Union meeting will take place in the town’s Castle Hotel next Thursday.
The availability of contraception, the need for a Chief Pharmaceutical Officer in Ireland and ideas about how to solve the severe shortage of pharmacists in Ireland – are all up for discussion.
