Calls for Government to introduce support services for those suffering with long Covid
The Government is set to come under pressure to provide services to support those who have not made a full recovery from Covid.
The Regional Group of TDs will table a Dáil motion this morning seeking the roll out of specialist services to support people suffering from long Covid.
The Group says more than 336,000 adults nationally are likely to be suffering or have suffered some form of long Covid, with an estimated 21,000 being so unwell that they are unfit to work.
Deputy Denis Naughten said the government needs to recognise the challenges associated with the condition and address them in a comprehensive manner:
“I don’t think the Government has really acknowledged the extent of the problem that we’re dealing with at the moment. I don’t think the HSE has acknowledged that we need to do far more to support GPs to support patients themselves. I believe that they, these patients are adding to existing waiting lists. We cannot afford to see additional patients being put on those lists.”
