Calls For New Government Agency To Monitor Alleged Price Gouging
There are calls for a new government agency to be set up to monitor alleged price gouging by service providers.
Fine Gael’s Bernard Durkan is calling on the government to set up a new body to ensure transparency and fairness for consumers.
Deputy Durkan says any such agency should have the necessary power to take action if gouging is identified:
“By all means, then let’s have the legislation in order to do and to give power to the body, in whatever way possible, in the shortest time possible. We cannot just do nothing. It’s not as sufficient to explain to the public that look, there’s a war on, there was COVID and it’s all coming home to roost now. Not all of those things are correct”.
