Childcare costs will drop by 25% as a result of today's Budget.

Parents will save an average of €1,200 per year for each child - and up to €2,100 in some cases.

Fine Gael TD Jennifer Carroll MacNeill says the Budget is targeting the 'squeezed-middle'.

"Constituents of mine are facing huge childcare costs, and it's something we've been campaigning for a considerable period now, and I hope that they'll see a big difference in that.

"It's the combined effects of tax cuts and reducing the structural costs that we can, without trying to add to inflation, and taking these big measures now without trying to add too much fuel to the fire, in the UK in particular, to try and target the squeezed middle."
