CMO says possibility of further restrictions cannot be ruled out
The Chief Medical Officer says the possibility of Covid-19 restrictions can’t be ruled out in the future.
Dr Tony Holohan will tell an Oireachtas Committee later new measures “may be required”, despite high vaccination rates.
He’ll tell TD’s and Senators the trajectory of the disease remains uncertain, and so an “agile” response will be needed.
It comes as a further 1,181 new cases were confirmed yesterday, while 275 covid patients were in hospital last night, 60 of which are in ICU.
Chair of the Irish Medical Organisation’s GP sub-committee, Dr. Denis McCauley, believes a scenario of further restrictions is an unlikely one.
“With the absence of a new, significant variant coming, and I think that with the advent of full vaccination and full coverage in over 90% of people I think it’s highly unlikely that significant restrictions will be imposed – as long as we continue to be sensible.”
