The Chief Medical Officer has warned that hospitals are under 'increased pressure' from Covid-19.

In a letter sent to the government last week, Dr Tony Holohan outlined the continued threat of the virus.

At the time there were 355 people in hospital with Covid, however yesterday that number stood at 515.

Infectious diseases expert Dr Jack Lambert says it's expected case numbers will fluctuate at certain times:

"We're going to have to expect increases in numbers and seasonality to Covid moving forwards. We've seen it in other countries. There's periods where the numbers drop off, there's periods where new strains come into the country and increase again. I mean, this is what we're going to be living with for years and years. So, I think we'd had anticipated that this was going to happen".
