Consumers Association ‘shocked’ at Electric Ireland increasing its prices next month

The Consumers Association is ‘shocked’ Electric Ireland is increasing its gas and electricity prices next month.

The company’s putting up electricity bills by 10.9 per cent and gas bills by 29.2 per cent from the 1st of August.

Over 1.2 million households across the country will be facing the higher costs.

Consumers Association of Ireland Chairman Michael Kilcoyne says this will put customers under intense strain:

“I don’t know if Electric Ireland realise the pressure that customers are under and the pressure, that the ordinary consumer is under, this is a situation where people will now be forced to either choose between having their food, or having electricity, it’s just gone beyond the reach of many ordinary consumers. And to be honest about the government is just sitting by and doing nothing about this.”
