Cork Chair of the Irish Hotels Federation says staffing hotels is still a challenge

The Cork Chair of the Irish Hotels Federation says staffing remains a challenge for some hotels following the pandemic.

General Manger of The Maldron Shandon, Joe Kennedy, says many hotels in the city have found bookings stronger than expected following the double Bank Holiday Weekend in March and the return of events like concerts and live sport.

Fáilte Ireland recently launched a national campaign to encourage more people to take up work in the tourism and hospitality sector ahead of the busiest summer season since 2019.

Speaking to RedFM News, Joe Kennedy from the Irish Hotels Federation says the hospitality industry isn’t the only one struggling to recruit new staff:

“I think that would be a challenge. It’s certainly out there is a challenge at the minute but my own personal view is a lot of other industries are in the same boat and it’s not necessarily the hospitality industry. We’re at the bottom to try and climb there faster because you know, business levels are coming back. So we’re putting our best foot forward and we’re very appreciative of Fáilte Ireland’s recent move as well to help us to encourage a lot of people back into our into our industry with to Work for Me campaign.”
