Cork Crime Prevention Officer Warns Two-Pronged Spate Of Car Related Crimes Underway In City
A Crime Prevention Officer with An Garda Síochana is warning that a two-pronged spate of car related crimes is underway in the city.
Speaking to RedFM News, Sgt Brian McSweeney says, in recent weeks, there has been an increase in cars being stolen, and property being taken from vehicles.
Two men appeared before a sitting of Cork Criminal Court on Saturday, relating to a theft from a vehicle in the Carrignarra area of Ballincollig at roughly 20 past 2 on Friday morning.
Ballincollig locals have taken to social media to express concern about what they call ‘suspicious characters’ hanging around the Heathfield and Maglin areas of the town.
Cork-based Crime Prevention Officer, Sgt Brian McSweeney says people need to take actions to make their property less attractive to criminals:
“In many ways, a lot of people are leaving their own cars open into the hands of the criminals. In some cases, over the last number of weeks, we had people leave the keys in the car, and another person left the key under the mat of the car, another person left the spare key in the glove compartment. But in other instances, we’re seeing a trend where the Japanese imported cars are being taken because they don’t have great security features like an alarm or an immobiliser”.
