Cork University Hospital the most overcrowded hospital in the country
Cork University Hospital is the most overcrowded in the country today with 57 people being treated on trolleys at the facility.
Nationally 55 patients have been on trolleys in emergency departments for over 24 hours.
In total, 497 people are on trolleys in EDs and wards today with 68 of those patients at Cork’s three emergency hospitals.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation says the figures remain too high.
Dr David Nabarro, the World Health Organisation’s Special Envoy on Covid-19, says pressure on healthcare is being felt across Europe.
“Right across Europe at the moment there is a really high instance level of people experiencing flu, people experiencing Covid, and people – particularly children – experiencing some other viruses as well.
“In some countries they’re saying it’s the most serious flu season they’re having in a decade.”
