Cork’s Adam O’Reilly called up to Under 21 squad
Cork’s Adam O’Reilly has been called up to the Republic of Ireland Under 21 squad for the European Championship Play off against Israel.
The Former Ringmahon Rangers midfielder, who currently lines out with St Patrick’s Athletic, is one of four additional players called up.
Burnley’s Dara Costelloe, NAC Breda’s Anselmo Garcia MacNulty and St. Patrick’ David Odumosu have allso been called upThe four players will join the group ahead of Friday’s UEFA European Under-21 Championship Play-Off First Leg against Israel at Tallaght Stadium. They replace Barnsley’s Luca Connell, Como 1907’s Liam Kerrigan, Sheffield Wednesday’s Mark McGuinness and Cork City’s David Harrington who have all been ruled out of the play-offs through injury. Limerick-native Costelloe is called into his first Ireland squad while O’Reilly returns to an Irish squad for the first-time since he featured for the Men’s Under-19s in November 2019. Garcia McNulty and Odumosu return to the U21s fold for the first time this year having been in squads earlier in the campaign.
The first leg of the play-off takes place on Friday evening in Tallaght, with the return fixture four days later.
Meanwhile Norwich City defender Andrew Omobamidele has been ruled out for the senior side.
The 20 year old will miss the Nations League games with Scotland and Armenia after picking up a groin injury in the 1-1 draw with West Brom.
He’s been replaced in the squad by Aberdeen’s Liam Scales.
Meanwhile Leanne Kiernan has emerged as an injury worry ahead of next month’s World Cup play-off.
The Liverpool attacker was substituted in yesterday’s 2-1 win over Chelsea in the first game of the new Super League season.
Ireland play either Scotland or Austria in the second round of the play-offs on October 11th.
