Cost of building Event Centre expected to rise again

The cost of building the Event Centre in Cork is expected to rise again.

The proposed building is estimated to cost around 85m already but a meeting of Cork City Council last night heard that it’s not confirmed how much extra it will cost.

57 million euro is expected to be invested by the state to fund the 6000 capacity venue where the sod was turned nearly 8 years ago despite no sign of construction.

Speaking to RedFM News in Cork on Friday, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said the Government is committed to getting it up and running again:

“I think it’ll be a huge boost for Cork and cork is a big city and it needs an Event Center and I’m very much behind it. You know,  When you’re a politician, if you do a sod turning or you do a ribbon cutting, you do it in good faith. And you know, I’m sure at the time, they didn’t anticipate that the project would be as complicated as it turned out to be.”
