COVID-19 UPDATE: 1,126 NEW CASES

123 patients are being treated for the virus in hospital, an increase of 18 on yesterday. 22 of these patients are being treated in ICU, up 1.

The head of the HSE says almost 70 percent of the adult population is now fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Paul Reid says more than 5.5 million doses have been administered so far.

He says over 80 percent of adults have now had at least one dose.

The Restaurants Association says one in four businesses won't reopen for indoor dining tomorrow.

The Government's expected today to sign off on guidelines for indoor service, which is set to resume from tomorrow.

Customers will need to show proof of immunity against Covid-19, by being fully vaccinated or recovered from the virus.

There will be a limit of six adults per table, children will be allowed indoors but premises must close by 11.30pm.

Wedding industry representatives are welcoming news the Digital Covid Cert could be used to increase the number of guests at receptions.

The government will meet on Tuesday to consider extending the system for travel and hospitality to allow between 50 and 100 at nuptials next month.

It had been expected 100 guests would be allowed, however last week the Tanaiste said couples should plan for a maximum of 50.

The Department of Education is procuring portable CO2 monitors which will be distributed to schools in August and September.

20 to 35 monitors will be issued to every school in order to improve ventilation and prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The Education Minister Norma Foley will bring an update on the schools reopening plan to Cabinet on Tuesday.

Germany has become the latest country to hint that restrictions may be introduced for unvaccinated people.

Angela Merkel's chief of staff told a Sunday newspaper they may be barred from restaurants, cinemas and stadiums.

The Delta variant is spreading in the country.

In England, large gatherings at football stadiums could only be open to vaccinated people from October, under new proposals.

It's understood the British government remains in talks with the Premier League about the plans.

Minister for crime and policing, Kit Malthouse, says they're still looking at the data from this summer before any decision is made.
