Domestic abuse to increase in coming months amid financial squeeze
A domestic abuse support service says they expect incidents of financial abuse to peak in the next few months due to the cost of living crisis.
OSS Cork has been offering guidance to victims of all forms of domestic abuse since 2000 and says they expect a huge increase in the number of people coming forward to report being victims of financial abuse in the coming months.
The charity on South Main Street says financial abuse occurs across all of society and is often marked by someone not having access to their ATM card, online bank accounts or being forced to account for everything they spend.
The pensions of older people are also being kept from them by their children in some cases.
Speaking to RedFM News, OSS Cork manager Deborah O’Flynn says finances are now a major flashpoint in terms of domestic abuse.
