There is growing speculation the ECB will stick to its plan to increase interest rates by a half of a per cent tomorrow.

There had been a growing expectation the plan might be changed as a result of the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank in the US.

That created uncertainty over the European Central Bank's plans.

Managing director of Dowling Financial, Michael Dowling, says the bank remains focused on tackling inflation.

"The drive behind increasing rates is to reduce the rates of inflation, however the numbers are not showing that we're reducing it as quickly as expected.

"The ECB is remaining fairly hawkish about its views on increasing interest rates, but European Central Banks, the Fed reserve, the Central Bank in the UK - they all look at each other."
