Enable Ireland employees strike over 14 year pay freeze

“No pay, no way!”

The shouts of almost 30 staff on the picket line outside Enable Ireland’s Lavanagh Centre in Curraheen this morning.

Employees say they have been forced to strike due to a pay freeze that has been imposed on section 38 workers since 2008.

Section 38 staff are employed by groups that are funded by the HSE to provide services such as disability support.

Staff at three centres in Cork including the Irish Wheelchair Association protested outside their workplaces earlier this week.

Speaking to RedFM News outside the Lavanagh Centre this morning, Collette Crowe says she sees first hand the difficulties groups like Enable Ireland are facing due to low pay.
