The continued growth in students undertaking STEM or science, technology, engineering and maths in the Leaving Cert, is great news for the Country.
That’s the view of Engineers Ireland after it was revealed that 101,306 students undertook STEM subjects this year, a 5% increase on 2020.
CAO first-round offers, which will be known next Tuesday, are expected to reveal record applications for STEM-type degrees.
Michelle Hoctor of Engineers Ireland, says STEM-based careers are opening up a world of opportunities.
You know this is very encouraging, there is a demand for engineers, and having a knowledge and an understanding and a proficiency in these STEM subjects for our future leaders, is very important to ensure that our country can continue to benefit from new industry opportunities, and the technological advances that we are making.
