Eurozone inflation hits record high

Eurozone inflation has hit a new record high, but has fallen slightly in Ireland.

New figures from Eurostat suggest Euro area inflation hit a record 9.1% this month, on an annual basis.

That’s up from 8.9% in July and is the zone’s highest rate since records began.

Despite the overall rise, inflation in Ireland fell for the first time this year, from 9.6% to 8.9%.

Economics lecturer at University College Cork, Seamus Coffey, says the colder months could bring higher rates.
