Families Whose Babies’ Organs Were Incinerated In Belgium Stages Protest Outside Cork University Hospital Later This Morning

The families whose babies’ organs were incinerated in Belgium without their knowledge are staging a protest outside Cork University Hospital later this morning.

The Voice of Our Angel’s group is made up of some of the 18 families who found out their children’s organs were sent to Antwerp with clinical waste at the start of the pandemic.

A first-draft review of the incident was due to be given to families by last November, however the publication of the report has been delayed several times, which the group says is forcing them to highlight the issue by protesting outside the hospital.

Leona Birmingham and her partner Glenn lost their one day old Lee at CUMH in September 2019. They later discovered his brain had been incinerated.

Speaking to RedFM News, Leona says the families are tired of waiting for the report to be published:

“Just we want the report done. We want it done. We want to see the findings and we want the government of Ireland to just learn from this mistake. We want to move on and make sure that legislation is brought in that is will never happen another family, as much as we want closure. We want to make sure it’s done right this time and it’s done in a way that I will never, ever happen again”.
