Firefighters from units across West Cork spent the night tackling “several” gorse fires.

Fire Control described the night to RedFM News as “extremely busy”.

The Irish Examiner is reporting today that workers in West Cork lost a day’s pay this week due to gorse-fires forcing their work places to close.

So-called ‘controlled burns’ are not permitted after the 1st of March until the 1st of September to protect the bird nesting season.
