Fisheries And Food Production Sectors In Ireland Set To Get Sizeable Chunk Of Multi-Billion Euro Post-Brexit Fund

Fisheries and food production sectors in Ireland are set to get a sizeable chunk of a multi-billion euro fund to support local communities most effected by Brexit.

The European Parliament this week approved the five billion euro Brexit fund to help EU countries deal with the economic and social impact of the UK’s departure from the EU.

Fine Gael MEP Colm Markey says around a billion euro will be coming here:

“Fisheries is obvious. I think anyone in the food processing, or indeed the primary food production businesses: they would be very heavily affected by Brexit. Anyone who has a lot of customs related activities that there’s a significant administrative burden to, I think they certainly would be another one that would be impacted. And certainly the idea of the land bridge, or the idea of having the access Continental Europe from Ireland – they probably are the main areas.”
