Foreign languages are set to be included in the primary school curriculum from 2025.

According to the Department of Education, it's part of a new framework which is currently under review.

Maude Cunningham has been teaching German to primary school kids in West Waterford since 2008.

She says there's huge engagement and interest among the children.

"The amount of vocab what their ability was, after a very short period like was unbelievable. There was only a certain amount of schools involved. Now, if it will happen and they make it part of the curriculum, all children will have access to it. That stage in primary school, it's an ideal time, they don't have as much other stuff going on."
