Fresh ways to reduce power usage at peak times being examined

A ‘Beat the Peak’ campaign to reduce power usage at busy times could see users given real-time information about the state of generators.

The Irish Examiner reports ESB Networks has proposed such a system to the energy regulator, with vouchers on offer for participants.

It could prompt consumers to pop on the dishwasher when the wind picks up, or suggest ‘heat-free’ meals to save energy.

This is the latest in attempts to reduce usage between 5pm and 7pm with fears of ‘generation shortages’ between these hours in the winter months.
